Traffic accident in Serbia – what to do right after
After an accident it is normal to be shaken. This order helps you not to miss anything important.
1. Safety and injured people
Switch on the hazard lights, put on a reflective vest and set up the warning triangle. If anyone is injured, call an ambulance (194) or the general emergency number 112, and the police (192).
2. When to call the police
Call the police whenever someone is injured, when the drivers cannot agree on what happened, when one of them has no valid insurance or is under the influence of alcohol, and when someone else’s property is damaged and the owner is not present.
3. European accident report
If there is only material damage and the drivers agree on the circumstances, they fill in the European Accident Statement – a joint form signed by both drivers. Fill it in carefully and do not sign anything you disagree with. If you drive a rental car, also call the rental company.
4. Photos and details
- Photograph the position of the cars, the damage, the number plates and the surroundings (signs, skid marks).
- Write down the other driver’s name, phone and insurance policy number and the details of any witnesses.
5. Transport of the damaged vehicle
A car that is leaking or has a damaged wheel, suspension or lights should not be driven. In the Prevezi app post “I need a tow truck NOW” – tow trucks nearby send offers and you choose the price and arrival time that suit you. After an accident the car usually goes to a garage or the insurer’s car park – enter that address as the destination.
Breakdown, accident or a car that won’t start – the tow truck comes to your location.
